A Police Superintendent in a vintage motorcar together with his driver and several constables at The Royal George at Birdlip. This could have been 1912-14. The first recorded use of a motorcar by Superintendents was when on 15th October 1912 the Chief Constable ask the Standing Joint Committee for permission for the Superintendent at Northleach to use one instead of a horse & carriage. This was approved together with the cost of the licence of £6.6s (6 guineas) (Gloucestershire Police Archives URN 2217)
Superintendent Joseph W.P. Goulder with police driver 1931. He joined Gloucestershire Constabulary in 1898 serving in Cheltenham. His warrant number 3534 and collar number 322. Between 1898-1901 he served in Cheltenham as a Police Constable,1906 in Staple Hill as a Sergeant,1921-28 Chipping Sodbury as a Superintendent, 1925-27 in Stroud as a Superintendent,1931 in Cheltenham as a Superintendent,1935 in Cheltenham as Chief Superintendent. 1935-45 Deputy Chief Constable in Cheltenham,1944 awarded Kings Police Medal.   • Hi, the photograph URN268 with the Cadets at the rear of a car, that car is a Humber Hawk from around 1956 not a Wolseley.
