1970s and 80s

Les Abbott

I have attached some documents from my early service. Conditions of Service and my acceptance letters when joining in January 1974. I have also uploaded the list of uniform I was issued with. You will see that my original training destination was changed from Chantmarle to RAF Dishforth in North Yorkshire due to the shortage of training school places. I was on the first 10 week training course and was given the option upon my return of being in Gloucestershire or joining the newly formed Avon and Somerset Police. I have lots of documents I am in the process of scanning but have just uploaded a few to start with. There were only 3 Gloucestershire officers at Dishforth (the single men who joined). It was a very cold and snowy winter . The Police Training Center was also an operational RAF base with a lot of night time flying to wake us up! have also uploaded a telex for attending a National Front Rally in Leicester in 1979 and the joining instructions for being on a Police Support Unit in 1985 for the last week of The Miners Strike.
