The front of Holland House sandbagged during war time. It was later damaged by a bomb and on 31st December 1940 the Chief Constable reported that to temporarily accommodate staff he had rented rooms in a house opposite Head Quarters at £2 per week. On 1st February 1942 the Force had to relinquish this property and four rooms were rented in Wilton House. These rooms were given up on 27th March 1943 as the repairs had been completed which enabled staff to move back in to Holland House. (Gloucestershire Police Archives URN 593)
