Staple Hill. This station house is detached and stands on an open piece of ground faces the road from Mangotsfield to Bristol. It is distant from Lawfords Gate 4 miles. Premises in a good state of repair and can be made ... by allowing the proposed additions and alterations. The Cell is insufficient in the air and light and security. Two additional bedrooms and a small office or sitting room for sergeant pantries and yard enclosed at the back. Cells suitable for male and female prisoners. Served in Army in Great War joined Gloucestershire Constabulary 1919 posted to Tewkesbury and later Downend and Staple Hill around 1923.His son Denis born 1926 at Downend recalls his father being taken into Bristol Hospital with appendicitis from which he did not recover.
