Pre war recruits Police Constable 43 William Newman known as Tiny second from right back row. Other officers who joined at the same time were: Albert R.J. Carter, Albert R Tombs, Richard P. Tibbots, John A.C. Franklin, Donald M. Hill-Davey, Leslie J. Neave, Cecil C. Packer, Guy H. Brown, Douglas H.G. Baker, Victor F Batstone, John H.R. Attwood. 12 recruits and two instructors. These men were selected from 500 applicants. Starting pay 63/- a week plus free accommodation and medical and dental treatment.
