This took place because Tony’ Poulter’s late wife, Shirley, had already taken part on a parachute jump with some colleagues, so Dave Parchment lay down the gauntlet, inviting the police to emulate them.

Tony was a larger than life character and there was a very kind side to him. I remember I had a leaking engine oil seal on my Ford Escort when I was stationed at Swindon Road. He borrowed a special tool from his brother in law at Bristol Street Motors and let me change it in my lunch break!
