I was privileged to be awarded the Caroline Symes Award twice. The first time was 1981 because of my involvement in Youth Football, and the second time was 1994 because of my involvement in The Spring Centre, a charity for children with special needs. I believe that I’m still the only officer to be awarded this twice. I was honoured to have attended many training days with Caroline as we joined about the same time. When I received the award in 1994, Caroline’s father said to me that ‘it’s not like the world cup, if you are awarded it three times you don’t get to keep it’.
