Samuel Beard

Two Police Officers. One thought to be Samuel Beard murdered on duty. (Gloucestershire Police Archives URN 2228)

This photograph has been in the constabulary archive for many years and is said to show Samuel Beard who was killed in the Forest of Dean in 1861.

Recent research shows that Gloucestershire Constabulary changed their uniform to include helmets in 1866 which was five years after the death of Sergeant Beard so it cannot be him.
